Winter Strikes Again

As I closed my eyes last night, I realized I hadn’t blogged, but in my defense, it was a really weird day.

It started with the banked fire going smokey at 4 am after a night of tossing and turning on my bad back. So bad sleep, early start, and lots of smoke. By the time I had cleared out the house and had the fire going properly, I was cold, tired, and actually went back to sleep for a little bit.

Then we had shopping to do, on these terrible, icy roads. Rural Oregon has nothing on rural PA when it come to winter road maintenance. Even the highway was coated in ice. But we were out of many staples and have three teenagers, so it had to be done.

By the time we got back, I was sore, exhausted, and ready to nap. I tried to write at that point, but my thoughts kept slipping so I played Civilization 6 instead (Eleanore of Aquitaine forever!).

When I got up to make dinner, I thought I might get some writing done while the chicken roasted, but as soon as I stood up I knew I wasn’t roasting anything. The kids made fish sticks and French fries while I sat by the fire until dinner.

After that I went to bed and zoned out watching J. Draper talk about London history until my brain finally shut down (with a mild withering thought of self-contempt when I realized I hadn’t blogged right before that happened). I did, however, bring my heating pad to bed, so I slept very well.

There’s another big storm brewing here. Anywhere from 3 to 16 inches are being called for. While we probably won’t get hit with the full 16 (that’s for even higher up than us), we will get some more snow. It’s unlikely I will get out to the stores to look for my table this weekend. I will try to at least settle on a monster for Chelsea this week. I keep waffling on something new or just one of my old favorites.
