I didn’t forget to blog! I was kidnapped! (Again!)

No seriously. My husband kidnapped me. Again!

In all seriousness, my husband knows I don’t take breaks well. He once planned a trip by calling my boss and arranging a long weekend off, and then picking me up for lunch. When we got on the highway, I started to panic. I had to call my boss and hear it from her before I believed him. And it still took me almost 2 hours to relax. Still, a great time.

Last Sunday night after dinner, my husband made me a cocktail and informed me that he had taken the last week of my hiatus off. We then proceded to keep drinking and watching tv for, well, a very long time. I did remember to text my writing partner, but that was about it.

Yes, we did enjoy ourselves. We didn’t get to do any traveling as my back was not up to it. But we made amazing food while getting a ton of stuff crossed off our to do list. And yes, it’s genuinely relaxing to install a new light fixture when you just say, “To hell with it,” and give yourself 12 hours to get it done as well as a charcuterie board with fresh bread. Take breaks. Lots of breaks with snacks. And then make cocktails when you’re done.

Also, a good portion of my “to do list” is shopping and making stuff. Giving up everything to move across the country is cathartic. But now I need curtains. So my “working staycation” was sitting in front of the fire and sewing or price comparing. And yes, I did get snack breaks and cocktails for this too. I was on vacation.

But my house is more comfortable and my kitchen is better lit. And while, of course, the blizzard decided to hit the day before I go back to work (my boss already called me off, lol), I am ready to go back. I take this time off because my boss offers it at the time when my back just the worst. But I am pretty confined to the house. I made it out to the antique stores and the craft store, with my cane, as needed, but mostly, I stayed home, on the couch, by the fire. Where I should be this time of year.

But still, I’m rested and ready to leave the house, with my cane. And yes, Chelsea is ready to go this weekend, even if I am terrible about updating the widget. Getting better about it is on my “to do” list.
